A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
