During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
