Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I won't manage another team on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect for the team. The forward lost his life in a car crash alongside his brother in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
