Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
