Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
