The Renowned Musician Urges Support to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of musicians featured on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a team of producers and composers. The track features a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all making this cause better known and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
