The Streaming Giant Selects Spot-On Star for Bon Clay in the Hit Series Upcoming Installment

The Secret Organization is poised to play a huge role in Netflix’s upcoming season of One Piece, although the true confrontation isn’t set to occur until the third season, and a adored, fan-favorite member has just been cast.

The streaming service revealed this week that Cole Escola will appear in the One Piece cast for the third season and will play Bon Clay. The role can use their power to transform into an perfect replica of any person they’ve laid a hand on with their dominant hand. The performer, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, will depict a rendition of that role reimagined as non-binary, rather than as a drag artist, in the live-action show, differing from the source material and cartoon version.

The new cast member will work alongside a number of recently announced actors tasked with bringing the organization to the screen, such as head Sir Crocodile, played by the seasoned performer, a talented actress as Miss Goldenweek, and a familiar face, who is also part of the cast as the ruler of the fictional land.

Even though the role is a key figure of the organization, the individual will be introduced in One Piece season 3. Considering the second season expected to adapt the Little Garden storyline, this signals a major departure in the timing of their first appearance, one that could suggest additional alterations to the plot development.

The actor’s combination of precise humor and deep sensitivity makes them a ideal selection for the part. Besides their current animated role in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they received high praise and numerous honors for writing and starring in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, showcasing the range they’ll add to one of One Piece’s most celebrated figures.

Netflix's live-action One Piece program is scheduled to come back for its second season on March 10th, 2026.
